ROCKVILLE, Md.—March 11, 2020 — Standard Solar, Inc., a leading solar energy company specializing in financing, project development support and long-term ownership and operations of solar electric systems nationwide, celebrates the passage of the Virginia Clean Economy Act (VCEA) by the Commonwealth of Virginia Legislature. Putting the state on a path to 100% clean energy by 2045, this legislation significantly expands the use of distributed solar, allowing for larger projects that make solar more affordable for businesses, schools and residents.
With more than 230 megawatts (MW) of solar in operation, under construction or contracted across the U.S., Standard Solar has dedicated resources to help energy consumers and partners benefit from this new bill and make the Commonwealth a national leader on clean energy and energy efficiency.
“Virginia now joins 29 other states with renewable energy standards, moving the state from voluntary to required clean energy commitments,” said John Finnerty, Director of Business Development at Standard Solar. “With this fundamental transformation to a clean energy economy, we look forward to expanding our portfolio in the Commonwealth and contributing to its bright renewable energy future.”
The bill’s provisions are estimated to create nearly 29,500 new jobs in Virginia’s rapidly growing renewable and efficiency industries.
“Standard Solar is proud to have been an active part of a broad coalition of clean energy stakeholders that, together with leading environmental groups and lawmakers, helped move this historic legislation forward,” continued Finnerty.
Standard Solar recently announced the completion of a 2.9 MW, ten-site solar project for Richmond Public Schools and a 1 MW solar project on four schools in the Augusta County Public School system, both of which the company funded and will own and operate. The company has also been selected, with project partner Sigora Solar, by Fairfax County and Isle of Wight County for large-scale renewable energy initiatives.
